Got us a battle...Leave it up to me

These next few postings are dedicated to my sister, Erin. She recently found out she has diabetes, after birthing 2 of the 3 cutest kids you'll ever meet. She has got to be the healthiest eater I know, which means the rest of the world should be horrified.

Everybody has heard the term "diabetes" before, but does anyone know what it actually means for your body? I'm not completely sure, but I do know it's pretty scary. It has to do with your pancreas, and of course, the amount of sugars and carbs you intake.

Which brings me to my next question: Do you ever stop and read the labels on the things you put in your mouth? Do you consider what the chefs at your favorite restaurants are putting in your meals? Do you care? I do--now. I think you, like I was, would be appauled to learn the high intake of sugars we all allow into our bodies daily. A simple snack like fruit is even banned. Now, I've never been a big fan of the government, but this is even more fuel for the fire. They stuff sugar into EVERYTHING, just to make a buck, at the cost of our lives. How horrific. Every now and then sure, we all deserve a treat. But daily? I think the majority of us could stand to shed some sugars. So I am taking a stand, and going (semi)diabetic. If you can go vegan and vegetarian, why not diabetic? Why should my sister have to fight this war alone? It certainly couldn't hurt me, only prepare me.

I may not be AS strict, and I don't have to poke myself every day, but I will start being much more aware of my daily sugar doses, and carbs too, because as I am learning, they are connected!

Now, I certainly don't make much money between my two part-time jobs, but I am going to start spending more on my groceries, to reduce the price of my health. All organic un-packaged non-processed natural sugars only! It will be quite the battle, I'm sure. But if it's a battle we must fight, leave it up to me.
Stay tuned people...
