Cooking up Creative Flare

Usually, if I study something long enough, or think it out in my head exactly the way I want to make it look, I can execute something amazing. This applies to creative projects, not math or anything.

Recently, I have been watching the cooking channel I love to cook, but I am so sick of being broke and unable to afford organic or new foods. I love to try new things, and am no longer letting my budget stand in the way of it. Girl can't live off bean and cheese burritos alone! Mostly because I just ran out of my Del Taco hot sauce stash...anyways, I think I'm on to something.

They say you eat with your eyes first, then your mouth. So the food you eat needs to be appealing. What is more appealing than color? So this week I decided to try some orange, yellow and green heirloom tomatoes. Never have you tasted such a flavorful tomato! I sliced my tomatoes, sprinkled a few drops of olive oil over them, dash of pepper and some herbs I had on hand, and I came up with an interesting looking tomato salad.
For my main dish, I wanted to buy as little ingredients as possible. Now, ya'll now Paula Dean? Lover of salt and butter abuser? Well, she inspired me to make my own mac & cheese. So I bought some durum wheat pasta with seminola (saw these words in my sister's diabetic cook book so I'm guessing they're good) and swiss cheese. Imported Jarlsberg, because it's the best, and well, it was the cheapest. So I used some soy milk and butter to toss on my pasta and mix in my cheese with a little burrito-left-over-cheddar, and garnished it with some watercress. Super tasty!! Washed it down with a nice warm cup of tea, and had myself a lovely, semi-sunny afternoon off. Proud, of my itch to be creative, even in the kitchen, I now feel inspired to go ahead and toss together some more unfamiliar ingredients.

I'll be eating the leftovers for dinner and possibly lunch tomorrow, but I got plenty of produce for the weekend. What will I cook up? Find out tomorrow!!

  1. Yum Jack! One of the blogs about food I read says to think of buying food like an investment in your future. I'd say that's well worth the price!
